Leeds United supporters will have enjoyed Georginio Rutter's goal for Brighton against Manchester United

Leeds United are currently enjoying a highly successful Championship campaign, and sit top of the table following Sunday's victory over Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

The Whites established the lead after just three minutes courtesy of Manor Solomon's goal, before efforts from Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka in the 88th and 96th minute respectively sealed an emphatic win.

The West Yorkshire outfit, who have not lost since 30th November, will be looking to build on their momentum when they face Norwich City on Wednesday, before an all-important meeting with fellow automatic promotion challengers Burnley next Monday.

But while the Whites are currently on course to secure promotion back to the Premier League at the second time of asking, the Elland Road faithful will also have enjoyed seeing traditional rivals Manchester United succumb to a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Brighton.

Daniel Farke's men are currently enjoying themselves, and sit pretty at the top of the Championship table, whereas the Red Devils are in a lowly 13th in the Premier League, following their defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, the Elland Road faithful will have particularly enjoyed the latest installment of their rivals' demise, due to the fact that former Whites star Georginio Rutter got himself on the scoresheet for the Seagulls.

Fabian Hurzeler's side went in front after just five minutes through wideman Yankuba Minteh, before a Bruno Fernandes penalty saw the two sides go in level at half-time.

But during the second half, the Seagulls got the better of the Red Devils as Kaoru Mitoma nudged his side in front on the hour mark, before Rutter's strike established a commanding 3-1 lead which Hurzeler's men successfully retained.

Leeds supporters will have been thrilled to see one of their side's former stars scoring against Man United, when the Frenchman capitalised on Andre Onana's error.

So far this term, the 22-year-old has notched four goals and two assists in 21 Premier League appearances, including two goals in his last two top-flight outings, but it was his exploits on Sunday afternoon that brought a smile to the faces of the Elland Road faithful.

Leeds have adjusted well following Rutter's exit

Last season, the former Hoffenheim man played a key role as the Whites reached the Championship play-off final, as he scored six goals and created 15 assists in the second tier last term.

When Rutter left West Yorkshire to join Premier League Brighton last summer, it seemed as though Farke and co had a tough battle on their hands when it came to dealing with his exit.

However, even without the creative ace on their side, the Whites are by far the highest goalscorers in the Championship, and have found the back of the net on 51 occasions in 27 games.

The second tier's next highest scorers are Middlesbrough, who have scored 44 goals this term, but sit just outside the play-off places following Saturday's 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Portsmouth.

But while the Whites faithful will enjoy their side's top of the league status, and the fact that their side have scored more goals than any of their Championship opponents, they will be proud of Rutter for scoring against Man United.
