Took the second easy.

Would have been nice to grab a few more goals.

The way the first half went, I was thinking we might overtake Chelsea on goal difference.

A controlled and professional performance nonetheless.

The four games after the final felt like must wins and we’re halfway there.’

Mark Jankowski:

‘A very comfortable night’s work in the Midlands.

Newcastle never had to get out of second gear in a routine 3-0 win.

Despite an early chance for Leicester it was Newcastle who struck first only moments later.

An audacious effort from Schar hit the bar and was then tapped in for 2-0 by Murphy.

Barnes wrapped up the scoring in the first half and Newcastle cruised through the second to claim 5th place.

There’ll be bigger tests in the weeks to come but it’s another step closer to the Champions League.’

Nat Seaton:

‘Another great 3 points.

Job done in the first half.

A second half, with no shots on target, that won’t live long in the memory.

Back into a Champions League spot.

Hopefully a couple more players back for Sunday, bring on Man Utd !!’

Bazoox:

‘A very workmanlike and efficient performance.

Another two Jacobs Crackers for the record books to savour and I thought we managed to play the game at a canter.

Well done Eddie and his Hotrods and now onto Salford at home at the weekend.’

Davey Hat-Trick:

‘Three easy goals, three easy points, and we’re back in the Champions League places.

I felt a bit sorry for Fabian Schar – apparently he doesn’t even get an assist for Murphy’s second. Other than that, a satisfactory night’s work.

You could argue that we didn’t play well, or you could argue that Leicester are so poor we didn’t have to get out of third gear to beat them.

Six days until we play manure and they have a tricky away tie in Europe midweek. All eyes on that now, lads.’

Greg McPeake:

‘Ha ha, my daft lad reckons he could have scored the Jacob Murphy goals.

Points in the bag even though the second half didn’t happen, Champions league beckons.

I think Murphy is great, Chuks thinks the opposite.’

David Punton:

‘One of the easiest away wins I think I’ve ever seen.

The gulf in class between these two sides was like the Grand Canyon.

We didn’t need to break sweat to get the job done.

In fact it was so easy we became a bit sloppy and probably took the foot off the gas. We should have won by more.

That said, the job is done. It’s a win on the road and we are closing in on the top four.

Jacob Murphy is having some season. Two goals tonight, as well as his amazing tally of assists.

It was a shame Fab Schar didn’t score from inside his own half – that would have been a goal to remember for a long while. Just the crossbar stopped it, but Murphy was there to mop up.

A professional effort overall by United – and not too much to complain about.

As for Leicester City – shocking. A hollowed out husk of a club. A right mess.’

Matt Busby said to…:

‘Okay, the performance wasn’t anything to get excited about, in fact against better opposition we might have struggled and some might say we lost a great opportunity to improve our goal difference, but we got the job done, collected all three points and avoided a potential banana skin.

What a fantastic start, Jacob Murphy scoring from a tight angle after some great work from Barnes and Livramento.

That settled the nerves, then we had Fabian Schar nearly scoring from the halfway line, with Murphy showing great anticipation to follow up with his second.

I thought Harvey Barnes was poor in the opening half hour but he redeemed himself by making it three on 34 minutes and from thereon in, the outcome was never in doubt.

Although I was relieved that we kept a clean sheet, conceding against that lot would have been severely embarrassing.

Bring on Man Utd. Can’t wait!’

The Armchair Fan:

‘Get in!

Great result and a professional performance.

One regret is that Schar’s effort came back off the bar – it would have been talked about for years had it gone in!

Results elsewhere have really gone our way this weekend and qualification for the Champions League is now firmly in our hands.

Happy days!’

Tony Mallabar:

‘Going down on the coach, talk of tonight’s result…easy 1-0.

Leicester bringing back memories of my 3rd away game against Cambridge United back in 1984..happy days.

Back then we had King Kev, new boy Peter and Terry Mac all black and white legend’s.

Today’s Eddie Howe’s version of Newcastle United are a very different animal.

Special mention in dispatches to Kieran Trippier, who although in his golden years, stood head and Alan shoulders above his peers tonight.

Also a mention to our lot, non-stop support from the away end and anyone complaining about not getting away tickets. The toon end tonight was full of young uns.’

Simon Ritter:

‘When one of the world’s best strikers looks unfit and his teammates still score three times in the first 35 minutes, something’s not right. Let’s hope Isak is physically 100%.

Most of the Leicester City players threw in the towel weeks ago, my Foxes friend Dave told me this morning. He wasn’t exaggerating, based on what I saw unfold. United rarely got out of second gear but that was good enough in the first half, after which the match was a formality.

The biggest concern was the risk of injury. Leicester improved a bit after the break but their attacking intent lacked confidence. Anyone would think they hadn’t scored since January.

Longstaff and Miley replaced Joelinton and Guimaraes on 65 minutes as the game resembled a half-speed training exercise. Wilson and Osula came on for Isak and Murphy on 72 minutes, with Krafth replacing Trippier near the end. Sunday’s line-up will reveal whether those substitutions were only tactical.

To nit-pick, we won’t have an easier opportunity to boost our goal difference but, if we keep winning, that will be unimportant. Onward and upward!’

Jamie Smith:

‘Exactly what I had hoped for pre match, a professional performance with a comfortable lead ahead of half time that would allow some respite for big players.

Would have liked Isak to have come off earlier and blimey the second half was a tough watch but you’ve got to be happy with that.

Hopefully the game management will allow everyone to be fully fired up for Man Utd at the weekend.

Win that and we retain the Champions League place we’re now occupying ahead of our game in hand.

Keep it going lads.’
