Former Stade de Reims manager Amandine Miquel joins Leicester City on a three-year contract after seven years in the French Première Ligue.
The Foxes’ hiring comes after a long recruitment drive to find the next manager. The club parted ways with interim Head Coach Jennifer Foster at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.
At her unveiling press conference, Miquel expressed her enthusiasm about working in the WSL for the first time.
“I am very excited for this new project,” said Miquel. “Right now, the WSL is one of the best leagues in the world and it’s the place to be. For any manager, the idea is to take the team to the next level. There is big potential here with this team and the club has equally ambitious objectives.”
Renowned for developing talent, Miquel maintained an average squad age of 23 at Reims while also improving the team’s year-on-year points tally, finishing position, and goal difference.
Leicester fans have a host of youth who could benefit from this managerial appointment, as well as a wider experienced squad in need of a definite tactical plan. It looks as though Miquel could be the manager to provide the right combination for delivering fans enjoyable and progressive football while continuing to sure it up at the back.
“We’re enormously excited about Amandine’s appointment,” said Leicester City chief executive Susan Whelan. “As an innovative coach looking to further establish herself in the game, make an impression in the WSL and develop women’s football, her ambitions match our own and we very much look forward to welcoming her to the club.”
Miquel will link up with her squad for the preseason. Meanwhile, Foxes fans will be hoping for some exciting new transfers to bolster the defence and midfield after the departures of Josie Green and Aileen Whelan this Summer.
In August, Leicester City will travel to Perth, Australia, to participate in the inaugural Perth International Football Cup. The competition will help the team gel after a difficult year on and off the pitch. It’ll be instrumental for preparing a better league finish than the past two seasons, which saw the Foxes sit 10th in the WSL.
