RC Lens midfielder Neil El-Aynaoui (23) has agreed terms over a prospective move to Ligue 1 rivals AS Monaco, according to a report from L’Équipe.

The Morocco youth international arrived at Lens only last year and for a very meagre sum, an estimated €600k from National 1 side AS Nancy. Expectations weren’t high, however, he surpassed them, establishing himself in Franck Haise’s squad, making 31 appearances in all competitions, including three in the UEFA Champions League.

However, Lens are looking to raise funds this summer with the club heralding a new, more austere regime following the departure of Haise. Monaco, on the other hand, will compete in the UEFA Champions League this season and are looking to strengthen their midfield.

Planning for the potential departure of Youssouf Fofana (25), who is reportedly nearing a move to AC Milan, Les Monégasques have set their sights on El-Aynaoui. L’Équipe understands that the Moroccan has now reached an agreement in principle to join the Principality club.

It is now up to the two clubs to reach an agreement. Lens are looking for a fee between €15-20m of the midfielder, whose contract runs until 2027.
