Back in December 2023, Martina Lenzini used two words to describe her contract renewal, those being: “emotion” and “love”. Now, it’s our turn to define her latest extension, and we’ll opt for the word “maturity”.

“I agree with that,” Martina said, having put pen to paper on her new deal, which sees her stay with Juventus Women until 2028. “This is a renewal of maturity because I think the path I’ve followed here at Juventus, the experiences I’ve had, have all allowed me to reach a level of maturity on and off the pitch.”

Lenzini’s new deal runs until 30 June, 2028, and that will see her spend more than 10 years tied to the Bianconere.

“Honestly, I never thought I’d be at Juventus for this many years when I started out in 2017. Not even in your wildest dreams can you think of spending so long at the club you’ve supported since you were a child.

“Now, though, I’m delighted to keep living this dream, and one that didn’t even exist before I began this adventure.”

Lenzini made her 100th appearance back in December 2023, but instantly set her sights on the next milestone even then.

“Honestly, I was very emotional when I made my 100th appearance for the club. It was an indescribable emotion. The day I took my shirt to the Juventus Museum, I had to take a moment for myself because I was so moved by the overwhelming emotions I was feeling.

“I won’t deny that my next thought was to get to 200. Of course, though, I’ve always been taking things one game at a time.”

In her time at Juventus, Martina has experienced a lot. When we asked her to choose one that stood out, she had an answer ready.

“Off the top of my head, I think the away Women’s Champions League game against Chelsea in 2021, when we drew 0-0. Okay, we didn’t win, win didn’t get a trophy, but it’s special for everything that surrounded it. And I think that day we saw everything that it means to be Juventus.

“Even though we were playing a team with a bigger reputation than us, a stronger team, an incredible group was created and I remember how we embraced and hugged each other at the end of the game. We hugged one another as though we’d won a trophy, and then the whole group’s celebration, was something special.”

To close, we asked if there was anything in particular that allowed her to mature so much with Juventus.

“The most significant thing for me has always been the ’never settle’ attitude. It’s not a cliche, it’s essential to work day after day and never think that you’ve made it. If you want to stay at Juventus you need to earn it every day, and we all have to try to work that bit harder each day, both mentally and physically.

“You have to work every single day to always try to find that extra motivation within yourself and believe you can make an extra contribution for Juventus.”
