Bayern Munich today confirm that Leroy Sané underwent ‘minimally invasive surgery’ on his groin in Munich on Monday. It’s a problem that the 28-year-old has suffered since the end of the season, but one that could have kept him out of Germany’s Euro 2024 campaign should Sané have undergone surgery earlier.

After undergoing surgery, Bayern Munich also confirmed that Sané is expected to join team training at the end of July when the remaining players competing at Euro 2024 return.

Featuring in all five of Germany’s Euro 2024 games, Sané started on the bench in each of Die Mannschaft’s three Group A games, but worked his way into Julian Nagelsmann’s starting eleven, ousting Florian Wirtz, for the knockout games against Denmark and Spain – although he failed to score or assist.

In 27 games for Bayern Munich last season, Sané scored eight and created 11 in the Bundesliga, and contributed a further four goals (two goals and two assists) in 12 Champions League games.
