Lewandowski cast out of Radomiak | OneFootball

Ekstraklasa side Radomiak Radom announced a change of coach on Sunday. Former Poland international Mariusz Lewandowski was released after almost a year in charge, and was replaced by Romanian Constantine Gâlcă.

Lewandowski was appointed at Radomiak on 25 April 2022, and was able to steady the ship after a disappointing start to the spring round. However, with the club lower in the table than they had been at the same stage last season, the Radomiak board have deemed it necessary to act.

In a strange twist, it was again defeat against Cracovia which has caused them to pull the trigger. Last year, Dariusz Banasik was dismissed after a 1-0 defeat to the Pasy, while Lewandowski’s last time in the dugout brought with it a 3-0 reverse.

68-time Romanian international Constantine Gâlcă was quickly announced as Lewandowski’s replacement, joining Radomiak after a spell in charge of Saudi club Al-Hazem. Prior to his time there, the former midfielder spent time at the likes of Espanyol, Velje Boldklub, and at hometown club FCSB.

As a player, Gâlcă spent the first part of his career in his homeland, playing 148 times for Steaua Bucharest. From there he moved to Spain and played almost 300 games in ten years in spells at RCD Mallorca, Espanyol, Villarreal, Zaragoza and Almeria. In international colours, he played in both the 1994 and 1998 World Cups, as well as the 2000 European Championship.

51-year-old Gâlcă will take charge of Radomiak for the first time next Monday, at home to Champions Lech Poznań.
