LFP mull over new DAZN offer for Ligue 1 broadcasting rights | OneFootball

L’Équipe understands that the LFP are meeting on Friday morning in order to consider a new offer from DAZN for the Ligue 1 broadcasting rights.

With under two months until the start of the Ligue 1 season, there is still no broadcaster. It is an alarming situation and one that is already affecting clubs, in the sense that it is making it difficult for teams in the top flight to plan their transfer windows, without the kind of financial assurances that the money received for the broadcasting rights provides.

The bundle for the next cycle (2024-2029) went to auction earlier this year. The LFP had hoped to receive a €1bn fee. Not only did they not achieve that figure, they received no bids at all. Since, they have been negotiating directly with the broadcasters in order to secure a deal.

Those efforts have thus far proved unfruitful. However, could there now be a breakthrough? L’Équipe understands that a new bid from DAZN is being considered. The broadcaster has offered €375m per year (on average) for the next five seasons for the biggest matches in each gameweek (1st choice, 2nd choice and 4th choice). For the first season, DAZN would pay €300m and this would rise to €500m for the final season. A €50m bonus would be paid should the number of subscribers go above two million.

The LFP also want to sell ‘Package B’ (3rd choice, 5th choice, 6th choice, 7th choice, 8th choice, 9th choice), as well as the ‘almost-live package’ for between €75m and €125m. Overall, the LFP are therefore looking to secure between €450- 500m per season. It is now up to the administrative council to decide on the bid.
