Matchday 13 of the Liga MX Clausura season took place this past weekend as Club América extended its lead at the top.

Toluca rose to second at the expense of Leon, who took the lead before suffering defeat at home to Pumas.

The weekend provided a host of exciting matchups as Tigres met the reigning champions América in the capital, whilst Pachuca met Toluca at the Estadio Nemesio Diez, and Chivas welcomed Cruz Azul to Guadalajara.

Necaxa recorded a special win over León before the international break and continued in fine form against Los Gallos. José Rodríguez opened the scoring early in the first half, but the points were only confirmed nine minutes from time when Alexis Pena doubled their lead.

Mazatlán 3-2 Atlas

Mazatlán closed the gap to the Liguilla positions with a first win four, coming from behind to secure maximum points in a five-goal thriller. Uros Djurdjevic has been one of the standout players in the Clausura, but his goal and assist were not enough as Salvador Rodríguez scored the decisive goal with 30 minutes left on the clock. The side is now one point behind Pumas, in tenth, as Atlas find them four points behind.

Juárez 2-0 Puebla

Los Bravos also returned to winning ways this weekend, following a three-game winless spell. Goals from Jairo Torres and Madson keep their playoff dreams alive, albeit three points adrift of Necaxa, who currently occupy the final automatic playoff position.

Toluca 3-2 Pachuca

Toluca moved up into second this weekend, but they almost blew a three-goal lead to Los Tuzos. A Jesús Angulo double shot Los Rojos Diablos into a stunning lead before Alexis Vega scored one of the best individual goals in modern history, going past two Pachuca defenders before rounding the goalkeeper to tap into an empty. Pachuca's comeback mission began when Pau López scored an own goal and Pedro Pedraza scored a second late in the game but Antonio Mohamed's side managed to hold onto a vital three points.

Club América 3-0 Tigres

The game of the weekend came at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes as third-place Tigres met Club América. Any chance of it being a close game was shut down by halftime when Brian Rodríguez scored a brace for the home side before Victor Davila put a nail in the UANL coffin in the second half. Las Águilas are now three points clear at the top of the Clausura, whilst Tigres fall to fourth.

Chivas 0-1 Cruz Azul

Cruz Azul go level on points with Tigres in fifth, following a narrow victor against a struggling Chivas side. The only goal of the game on halftime when Ignacio Rivero scored from distance. Los Rojiblancos now find themselves outside the playoff positions, falling down to 11th.

Monterrey 1-2 Tijuana

The biggest shock of the weekend came at the Estadio BBVA, with Monterrey left stunned by Tijuana. Sergio Ramos was absent from this game, following a needless red card at the end of the 3-1 win over Pumas before the international break. Nonetheless, Los Xolos took the lead through José Zuniga, who scored his seventh since the start of the Clausura. Four minutes later, Monterrey were back in the game when Sergio Canales converted from the penalty spot, but the game was decided in the 83 minute when 16-year-old Gilberto Mora stabbed home his second professional goal to give Tijuana a third win of the campaign.

Santos Laguna 2-3 San Luis

In a battle at the bottom of the table, San Luis came from two goals down to spark a great escape. Bruno Barticciotto netted twice in the first 30 minutes with Santos flying, but Rodrigo Dourado halved the deficit moments before the halftime whistle. Chasing the game, San Luis hit their hosts with a quickfire double when Sebastien Lamonge and Vitinho flipped the game on its head. The result leaves Santos bottom of the Clausura table as three points for San Luis moves them within five points of the playoff positions with four games to go.

James Rodríguez's León were top of the league and unbeaten less than a month ago. Since a 2-1 win over Tijuana on matchday 10, they have suffered back-to-back-to-back 2-1 losses to Santos Laguna, Necaxa and now Pumas. The rotten run looked behind them in the second minute when Jhonder Cadíz netted his seventh of the season, but a horror mistake from Alfonso Blanco gifted Leo Suárez an equaliser before José Caicedo scored an 82 minute winner for the visitors, who bounced back from a 3-1 loss to Monterrey before the international break.
