Ligue 1 Predictions, Round 34
GFFN editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle and GFFN’s Raphaël Jucobin face off in our Ligue 1 predictions competition. It’s three points for a correct score, two points for a correct score difference, and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
SCORES
Raphaël: 182
Luke: 214
Nice lost against Rennes last week and it was a result that came at a cost. Not only is the podium now out of reach, they also lost three players to injury: Morgan Sanson, Melvin Bard, and Jérémie Boga. The latter is the biggest doubt to face Brest this weekend, although it is still expected that he will be fit enough to play. How fit the trio will be is another question but Sanson and Bard in particular have shown themselves to be important players in recent weeks. The positive from last week is that all of the direct rivals behind them failed to profit. They therefore have their destiny in their own hands – a win and they finish fourth and go into the Champions League play-off.
Le Gym will be hoping for a favour from Brest and Eric Roy. The Brest manager, in what could be his final game for the club, is a former Niçois, having played for the club and been part of the club’s hierarchy. He remains very close to the club but he may not be in the mood for giving gifts. Lyon’s financial situation means that eighth place, the position that Brest currently occupy, may suffice for Europa Conference League qualification, should OL be banned from competing in Europe. Brest are one point ahead of Lens, who will be desperate to leapfrog Les Ty-Zéfs in the event of a disqualification for OL. They will also be on a high after a resounding 2-0 win over Lille. There is plenty of talent in this Brest side, as they showed in the Champions League this season, and they are more than capable of getting a result.
