Barcelona defender Mikayil Faye’s future at the club appears uncertain as Lille have officially joined the race to sign him, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

This development comes at a time when Rennes were also heavily interested, with both clubs submitting official bids to Barcelona in recent days.

However, Barcelona have made it clear that they will only let Faye go if certain conditions are met, including a buy-back clause and a sell-on clause.

Faye’s position at Barcelona has been in doubt ever since it became evident that he does not feature in Hansi Flick’s plans for the upcoming season.

Despite showing promise earlier, Faye has failed to convince Flick of his suitability for the first team. Consequently, Barcelona’s management, with Flick’s approval, is actively seeking a resolution, which may result in Faye’s departure from the club.

Faye’s exit is very likely

The situation has been evolving rapidly, and Faye himself has come to terms with the possibility that leaving Barcelona might be the best move for his career.

His contract with the club runs until 2027, but the prospect of limited playing time has prompted both the player and the club to consider offers from other teams.

For now, Barcelona have set a valuation of €10 million, and any deal would need to meet this figure for a transfer to occur.

Interestingly, Rennes have already made a significant offer to Barcelona, putting forward a package worth €15 million in total. This offer includes €11 million as a fixed amount, with the remaining €4 million tied to various performance-related variables.

Moreover, a buy-back option was also being discussed between Barcelona and Rennes, which would allow Barcelona to re-sign Faye within the first three years of his contract, should he prove to be a success elsewhere.

The entry of Lille into the race, however, has added an intriguing twist to the situation. With two clubs now competing for his services, the negotiations are likely to intensify.

Barcelona’s priority remains securing the best possible deal for Faye, including clauses that could benefit them in the future.
