This is according to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon account, in which he claims that the Imps are lining up a potential swoop for the out of favour Pilgrims midfielder.

City and Michael Skubala have already made several additions in midfield, with Tom Bayliss, JJ McKiernan and Conor McGrandles all joining the club following their departures from elsewhere across the EFL.

And despite being well-stacked in their engine room, Wright is now on their radar ahead of the August 30 deadline.

If Wright can keep himself injury-free, Skubala could have a real gem on his hands should all parties get a deal over the line, and it will help boost the Imps' play-off ambitions.

Lincoln are very keen on securing a deal for Wright from Home Park before the transfer window closes on August 30.

The 24-year-old is an extremely gifted attacking midfielder, but in his 52 games played for the Pilgrims, he has only started 25 times, and also spent a significant time on the sidelines last season through injury.

Additionally, in the opening fixtures of the 2024-25 season, Wayne Rooney has only used Wright as a substitute, so the ex-Leicester City man may be keen on securing first-team football elsewhere.

Sincil Bank could be an ideal destination for Wright, but with the 24-year-old still having two years left on his Argyle contract, Plymouth might demand a substantial fee for their midfielder.

A steep asking price might deter Skubala's side. If that happens, the Imps could return with a loan offer as currently, no information has emerged as to the conditions of the deal.

Callum Wright needs to meet early promise if Lincoln City deal is agreed

During his youth days at Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers, Wright showed a great deal of promise, and his first loan to Cheltenham Town was a great success.

Across one and a half seasons at the Robins, the midfielder managed 13 goals and eight assists in all competitions, which led to his move to Plymouth.

Unfortunately, he has struggled since then, with his only notable success being his first six months at Argyle.

To rediscover this form, a drop-down to League One may be required, as he needs regular game time to maximize his performance.

A spot alongside Bayliss in central midfield could be the perfect place for Wright to develop. Albeit only two fixtures in, Bayliss' current partner McKiernan isn't as experienced at League One level and may need more time to bed in.
