Liverpool beat Leicester City by three goals to one on Boxing Day. The Reds weren't at their best, but they didn't really need to be to defeat the troubled and troubling Foxes. Anfield is surely an intimidating and hard stadium for Premier League teams to compete. However, and unfortunately for the Blue Army, the home side didn't even go figuratively higher than third gear against Leicester.
In truth, the outcome and evening could have been drastically worse for LCFC. Yet they lost; the City team has felt almost totally lost for a few weeks now. Nevertheless, a prominent Fox is proud of his club and teammates. Presumably the pride stems from not being beaten by five, six, or even seven goals to nil. And that scenario was more than probable when considering how the Foxes currently flounder, especially in defensive situations.
To be fair, most people in the world predicted an absolute drubbing for the Foxes at Anfield. I myself was particularly worried. If you often read Foxes of Leicester's articles or social media posts, you'll know this writer's views intimately. I was predictably pessimistic in this instance, I must admit.
Although when I saw the Leicester lineup, my nerves were slightly alleviated. That's because Danny Ward was dropped, thankfully. I don't want to target the goalkeeper any more than he's already been, sometimes unfairly. Nonetheless, LCFC manager Ruud van Nistelrooy was correct to not even name the former Red as a substitute! The introduction of Jakub Stolarczyk was requested by City's fan base - and the Dutchman duly obliged.
For some reason, I had a feeling Patson Daka would stretch the LFC defence. Don't ask me why, yet the understudy striker also gave me unfounded confidence. Though the inevitable unravelled, of course.
In his unenviable task, Victor Kristiansen gave Mohamed Salah too much space and time. I'm not sure how the Egyptian's soft goal was conceded. Though the act was sadly foreseeable. Errors from Boubakary Soumare and other jumpy visiting players gave Arne Slot's men impetus - they capitalised with relative ease.
