Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley are back in training ahead of his side’s clash with Manchester United.
The defensive duo have been sidelined since picking up injuries during the Champions League win over Real Madrid in November. Slot has confirmed that both players have completed their rehabilitation and will train with the Liverpool squad on Friday.
The return of Konate and Bradley is well timed, with Joe Gomez facing a spell out. Gomez was withdrawn during the win at West Ham last week with a hamstring injury. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Slot revealed the 27-year-old is facing an ‘a few weeks’ in the treatment room.
“Joe [Gomez] is not in a good place when it comes to his injury, he’s out for a few weeks. Conor [Bradley] and Ibou [Konate] will train with us today for the first time. They’ve worked hard to come back for the team. The next step is how they’ll handle team sessions.”
Liverpool take on their fierce rivals at Anfield with the sides in contrasting mood. Slot’s side won 5-0 at West Ham last time out to cement their place at the top of the Premier League table. The visitors slumped to a fourth consecutive defeat against Newcastle and sit just seven points above the relegation places.
Slot expressed his sympathy for Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, who has endured a tough start to his reign at Old Trafford.
“Every manager sympathises with every other manager. We all know how much pressure this job brings. It is something we like. Like I said, he’s done so well at Sporting and I think he has a good squad of players so he will eventually bring the best out of them.”
