Liverpool have been handed a positive update on the fitness of Alexis Mac Allister, who was forced off during Argentina’s clash with Chile on Thursday night.

Mac Allister opened the scoring in a 3-0 win for the world champions but was withdrawn early from proceedings due to ‘discomfort’ in his adductor, according to head coach Lionel Scaloni.

However, Mac Allister is set travel with La Albiceleste for their World Cup qualifier with Colombia on Tuesday, in a rematch of this summer’s Copa America final.

The 25-year-old’s participation in the fixture is unclear, though he is not expected to be ruled out of Liverpool’s fixture with Nottingham Forest when the Premier League returns this weekend.

According to TyC Sports journalist Gaston Edul, Mac Allister will ‘train differently until Tuesday to be able to get ready for the game against Colombia’.

Liverpool will hope caution is taken with the midfielder who has been subject to an intense work load over the summer. Only Virgil van Dijk and Luis Diaz played more minutes in a Liverpool shirt last season, before Mac Allister featured six times – including two ties that went to extra-time – as Argentina defended the Copa America in the summer.
