It has been a quiet transfer window for Liverpool so far, but with Euro 2024 now over, the Reds have been tipped to step up their interest in a player who quickly became a key man during England's journey this tournament.

As new head coach Arne Slot looks to bolster his side's defence following the departure of Joel Matip on a free transfer, renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that negotiations are ongoing between the club and Crystal Palace for their centre-back Marc Guehi.

During his Playback Live Show, Romano disclosed: "Marc Guehi has been linked with Liverpool. I can tell you that Liverpool have been scouting the player for a long time. He's a player they like, for sure."

He went on to explain: "At the moment [...] the situation is quiet because of the Euros. After the Euros, we will see the appreciation of Liverpool for the player."

Standout performer at Euro 2024

Guehi's performances for England at Euro 2024 have been widely praised, making him one of the tournament's standout players.

His solid displays as John Stones' partner helped England reach the final, successfully filling the void left by Harry Maguire's injury. As a result, the 24-year-old has attracted attention from multiple clubs.

Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked with the defender and Crystal Palace are expected to demand around £65 million for the Englishman, a fee reflective of his rising stock and integral role at the club.

Crystal Palace won't let Guehi go easily

However, having already lost star winger Michael Olise to Bayern Munich and ongoing speculation about Eberechi Eze's future, the club can ill-afford to lose another of their key assets.

Guehi's Premier League statistics underscore his value to Crystal Palace, racking up an average (per game) of 3.5 clearances, 1.2 aerial duels won, 1.1 tackles and 0.7 interceptions.

Coupled with excellent composure, pace and passing range, it's clear to see why Liverpool would be interested, especially as they look for a long-term replacement on the left-hand side for captain Virgil van Dijk.

That said, as a right-footer, Guehi could also join the Dutchman as part of a defensive pairing.

With Ibrahima Konate struggling for form and fitness in the latter half of the season and youngster Jarell Quansah still developing, the addition of a new centre-back is seen as a priority for the Reds this summer.
