FC Barcelona have been in great form since the turn of 2025 and are unbeaten across all competitions. The performances have been promising, at least for the most part, and Hansi Flick has been boosted by the sudden improvement in form in some of his players.

No player in the Barcelona team has managed to turn his fortunes around more in 2025 than Frenkie de Jong. After a truly disappointing 2024 riddled with injuries and poor form, this has been an inspiring turn of events for the Dutchman.

However, despite his impressive performances on the pitch, one cannot forget his contractual situation at Barcelona. The 27-year-old’s deal with the Catalan club expires in 2026 and unlike his teammates, he is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Now, as per Caught Offside, Liverpool are interested in signing Barcelona midfield star Frenkie de Jong but are cautious about his high salary demands, as he currently earns a substantial amount at the Catalan club.

The report states that Barcelona would be willing to part ways with De Jong next summer to avoid losing him for free in 2026, with a fee of €35 million reportedly enough for Liverpool or any other interested club to secure his signing.

Liverpool are intent on reinforcing their midfield and it is not that they have identified De Jong as the only option. He is one of the midfield options that they are considering with Stuttgart youngster Angelo Stiller also mentioned in the mix.

It remains to be seen if Hansi Flick’s trust in him convinces Frenkie de Jong to sign a new contract at the Catalan club. If not, selling him in the summer might be the only option, and let’s wait and see how this particular transfer saga involving Liverpool pans out when we get to it.
