Liverpool are set to be beaten to the signing of wonderkid centre-back Dean Huijsen as Paris Saint Germain close in on a deal for his signature.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the 19-year-old over recent months, with the Dutch-born defender having shone in Serie A last season.

The Spain under-21 international is a product of the Juventus academy but spent last term on loan at capital side Roma.

He blossomed during the second half of the season and made 14 Serie A appearances during a fruitful period for the club, even netting twice and grabbing an assist from the heart of defence.

The 6'4 colossus has understandably attracted the attention of Europe's elite clubs, including the Reds, but it appears that a move to France is close to being finalised.

DEAN HUIJSEN SET FOR PSG SWITCH

Tuttosport had previously reported that PSG were edging closer to a deal for the youngster, but that Juventus were seeking €30m (£25m) to sanction an exit.

With the French champions having only offered €20m (£17m), there was still work to be done despite Huijsen having agreed to a Paris switch.

However, La Stampa have now revealed that PSG are readying another bid for Huijsen and that the player and his team are incredibly eager to join the Champions League semi-finalists.

For Liverpool, that would mean another defensive target had been snapped up, with the Reds expected to strengthen at centre-half this summer.

Having said that, Huijsen, who is capable of playing on both sides of a centre-back pairing, would have been a risky signing, with very little senior experience under his belt.

PSG can likely offer a much higher wage than the Reds too, while Liverpool may not have held significant interest in the Juventus man in the first place.

Liverpool have been linked with plenty of central defenders this summer and could do with adding to their backline following Joel Matip's exit.

However, it's not guaranteed that Arne Slot will be gifted a new defender in the coming weeks.
