Liverpool manager Arne Slot has shared his opinion on Jarell Quansah after the defender was called up to the latest England squad.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has included Liverpool defender Quansah in his first squad as the Three Lions’ boss.

The Three Lions will play two World Cup qualifiers at home in March.

England will face Albania at Wembley Stadium on March 21 before taking on Latvia three days later.

Quansah, who has been compared to Arsenal defender Ben White, is in contention to play both those games, and Liverpool boss Slot has spoken highly of him.

While outlining the attributes that make the 22-year-old a special talent, Slot has noted his strong mentality that saw him bounce back after being substituted at half time against Ipswich Town in the Premier League back in August.

Slot told The Liverpool Echo about Quansah: “It says a lot about his mentality [England call]. I changed him v Ipswich and Virgil and Ibou are such a strong combination, so every time he plays everyone can see he is a talent.

“He has had some setbacks and he has reacted and shown in recent performances, he has outgrown being called just a talent so that is what Tuchel has seen.

“He has done well for us in a position he is not used to, at right-back. He is strong, fast and comfortable on the ball. And he gives us something different on set-pieces too, you saw where he hit the post.”

The Liverpool boss added: “If being subbed at HT is a setback then every player has a few in his career. It was more than people were not used to what I said being so clear about what I saw.

“That probably led to a situation where he was criticised more than what was normal. He managed his way back into it. Before the winter break, he had a few good moments, so mentally-wise, it might have been a big moment for him, that Ipswich game.

“Now he has experienced people are not only positive about him, he knows now he can fight his way back when people aren’t as positive. And that is something a young player should experience because a career is not always going up.”

View: Jarell Quansah is a future Liverpool star

Quansah is one of the best young players in the Premier League, and the Liverpool defender’s England call-up shows that he is getting noticed.

Tuchel is one of the best managers out there, and that the former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain boss thinks that Quansah is good enough to play for the England senior team says a lot.

Quansah is a centre-back by trade, but getting into the Liverpool team ahead of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate is not easy.

The 22-year-old has shown his versatility and value to the Liverpool squad by featuring at right-back.

To make 21 appearances in Slot’s first season in charge of Liverpool for a 22-year-old is no mean feat, and Liverpool fans should be excited about the prospect of Quansah getting even better in the coming years.

Liverpool will take on Premier League rivals Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium in the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday.

With England international star Alexander-Arnold injured, Quansah is likely to be deployed at right-back for the Merseyside club.
