Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo has endorsed a potential move to sign Japan teammate Takefusa Kubo.

Liverpool are reported to have opened talks with Real Sociedad over a deal to sign the winger, who has a release clause in the region of €60m (£51m) at the Spanish side.

The 23-year-old scored seven goals and provided four assists in La Liga in 2023-24, while he ranked sixth among all players in Spain’s top division for chances created and progressive carries.

Kubo is understood to be viewed as a potential long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, with the Japan international a left-footed right-winger with speed and goal threat.

Endo, who plays alongside Kubo for the national team, believes Kubo would be a good fit at Liverpool.

Asked if there’s a Japan teammate he’d like to join him at Liverpool, Endo told Japanese channel ABEMA Sports Time: “Maybe Kubo.

“They’re looking for a replacement for Mo Salah, so that’s probably going to be a real area for Liverpool to strengthen in the future.

“And if they think about who can replace him, I think it’ll be Kubo.”
