Liverpool have mitigated tricky away days at Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Bournemouth without relinquishing their healthy lead at the Premier League summit, but Everton will be intent on making those trips appear like cakewalks on Wednesday night.

A historic occasion beckons for the eternal rivals in midweek, with Goodison Park preparing to host its final Merseyside Derby at the second attempt before the Toffees venture off to a glitzier home.

Liverpool were scheduled to make the short trip across town in December, but Storm Darragh forced the fixture's postponement and arguably set up a trickier challenge for the Reds under the lights.

After a heavily rotated side was embarrassed in the FA Cup at Plymouth on Sunday, here's the team Arne Slot is expected to pick for Wednesday's derby.

GK: Alisson - The Brazilian has kept back-to-back clean sheets and was particularly brilliant in Liverpool's 2-0 win at Bournemouth two Saturdays ago.

RB: Conor Bradley - Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to be available, but Slot may opt for the sturdier Bradley after the academy graduate starred in their victory over Tottenham last Thursday.

CB: Ibrahima Konate - Konate struggled in this fixture last season, but has shown signs of returning to his most dominant form in recent outings having initially struggled after returning from injury in the new year.

CB: Virgil van Dijk - Van Dijk doesn't have the fondest memories of Goodison - not in recent times anyway. After Jordan Pickford contributed to his ACL tear in 2021, the Dutchman saw Everton kill Liverpool's title dream last season.

LB: Andy Robertson - The Scot has endured a pretty indifferent season, but his spot in the XI remains relatively safe. Kostas Tsimikas played 90 minutes at the weekend.

CM: Ryan Gravenberch - Slot's revelation at the base of midfield is proving himself to be a tactical unicorn, and it'll be interesting to see how the manager utilises him to combat Everton's newfound threat under David Moyes.

CM: Alexis Mac Allister - Mac Allister played an obscene amount of football last season, but there's been more respite for him this term and he should be relatively fresh for the derby having barely featured in Liverpool's recent cup outings.

RW: Mohamed Salah - Salah's two strikes helped Liverpool to a big win at Bournemouth, and such efficiency wouldn't go amiss on Wednesday. He drew blanks on his previous two visits to Goodison Park but has scored seven in 11 games against the Toffees.

AM: Dominik Szoboszlai - The Hungarian international is coming into his own once more and re-emerging as a key cog in the big red machine.

LW: Cody Gakpo - When Salah rarely hasn't fired, Liverpool have turned to Gakpo in the final third. He's enjoyed the best season of his Premier League career and is nailed on to start down the left at Goodison.

ST: Darwin Nunez - Slot has rotated between a few options up top as of late, but Nunez, as a result of his presence, change of pace, and ability to facilitate chaos in the box, might be the most desirable option against Everton's towering defenders.
