Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is set to stay put at Anfield despite having been linked with a move away from the club, according to the BBC.
The Reds have already parted ways with two defenders this summer with Joel Matip leaving for free and Sepp van den Berg joining Brentford.
While the search to replace the duo goes on, the future of yet another defender in the shape of Gomez has also come up for discussion.
The 27-year-old, who is yet to play his first match of the season, has been linked with several clubs, including Newcastle United.
While the search for a new defender goes on at St James’ Park following the failure to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, Gomez is one player they are keen on.
However, as things stand Gomez will be staying at Liverpool beyond tonight’s transfer deadline.
Liverpool have the player tied down with a contract until the summer of 2027.
Whether he manages to make his debut under new manager Arne Slot this weekend against Manchester United remains to be seen.
