Liverpool’s Luis Diaz has been in scintillating form for Arne Slot’s side this season.
The Colombian winger has 9 goals in 16 matches across all competitions so far, and has been far more clinical under Slot than he was during Jurgen Klopp’s time in charge.
He’s been his usual electric self with the ball at his feet, but it’s his goalscoring that has caught the eye for the Reds this season, culminating in his recent hattrick against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.
While things have been going well at club level, things haven’t been quite as plain sailing for his international side recently, with Diaz criticised after the recent loss to Darwin Nunez’s Uruguay in World Cup qualification.
CONMEBOL World Cup qualification is as hard as it gets. All 10 South American sides are placed into one group, and play each other home and away during the course of the qualifying period.
The top six teams earn a spot at the World Cup, with seventh place having to go through a playoff.
Things are incredibly tight in the group stage standings, with Colombia now level on points with Uruguay in second place, but both sides will be looking over their shoulders as they are just seven points ahead of Venezuela and Bolivia who are sitting outside the qualification spots.
