Liverpool could be looking to sign a new centre-back in the summer transfer window.
The Reds are likely to undergo a massive rebuilding in the summer, and Arne Slot will want to stamp his authority on the side by making necessary changes.
Joe Gomez has struggled with injuries this season, and the Reds defender is most likely to be sold in the summer.
Ibrahima Konate has been outstanding this season, but he has yet to sign a new contract at Anfield. His future could come under major doubt, with Real Madrid lurking, although Liverpool are in no rush to sell him.
Virgil van Dijk has only a few months left in his contract, and the Reds skipper could leave for free. While Slot wants him to stay, the defender has suggested that his future could be decided by the end of the season.
Put simply, Liverpool will need to sign a new centre-back and they have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck.
The 25-year-old defender could leave the German side, and his exit could be a “real possibility”. The German defender manages 1.6 tackles and 3.3 clearances per game and makes around 90% passing accuracy.
He is a left-footed central defender, and Liverpool are heavily interested in signing him. He has a contract at Dortmund until 2027, and the Reds are willing to pay £50 million to secure his services.
Schlotterbeck has played all his career in Germany but could move abroad in the summer if Liverpool make a concrete approach.
The Reds are also showing keen interest in signing AFC Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, and it will require around £50m to sign him.
Apart from signing a central defender, Liverpool are also looking to add a new left-back to the squad. The Reds have been linked with a move for Milos Kerkez who could leave the Cherries at the end of the season.
