Trent Alexander-Arnold in the squad for Liverpool against defending champions

Liverpool have Trent Alexander-Arnold on the bench for tonight’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid.

The defender was forced off during the win over Aston Villa before the international break and subsequently pulled out of the England squad with a hamstring injury.

Alexander-Arnold then missed the 3-2 win over Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday after Slot had claimed the right-back could return “in between” the meeting with Madrid and Sunday’s League clash with Manchester City.

However, Alexander-Arnold trained with the Liverpool squad on Tuesday, stepping up his efforts to prove his fitness ahead of the Spanish giants’ visit, and he is named among the substitutes at Anfield.

Harvey Elliott returned to the bench on Sunday following a foot injury to bolster Slot’s options and is there again tonight, but a host of first-team players remain injured.

None of Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota or Federico Chiesa are involved for the visit of the European champions.

Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz come back into the starting lineup after starting on the bench against Saints, but Kostas Tsimikas is out with an ankle injury.

Liverpool XI: Kelleher, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Jones, Salah, Nunez, Diaz

Subs: Jaros, Davies, Gomez, Endo, Szoboszlai, Gakpo, Elliott, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Morton

Time and date: 8pm GMT tonight on Wednesday 27 November 2024
