According to a recent report over in Spain, La Liga side Girona are "seriously considering" triggering their £15 million option to buy for Bryan Gil, with the player in "very good consideration" by his loan club.
Back in the summer, the 24-year old joined Girona on a season long loan, with the aforementioned buy option inserted in the deal. So far it has been a fruitful spell, with over 1000 minutes played in La Liga, and nearly 400 in the Champions League. His best performance came in a win over Alejo Veliz and RCD Espanyol, providing two assists and scoring a goal in a 4-1 win back in November.
Owing to his performances during his loan spell, Gil received his first Spain call up since March of 2023, and with it earned his first cap since all the way back in 2021. Safe to say, he took his chance. Having come on as a sub for the Spurs linked Nico Williams, he scored his first international goal just eight minutes later, helping his side to a 3-2 victory against Switzerland.
Whilst there is little doubt that he is a player with a lot of quality, there is also little doubt that are no plans for him at Spurs at the moment. Despite being at the club for the entirety of last season, he managed just 236 minutes of Premier League football, featuring in 11 games - and starting just two - Aston Villa at home, and Manchester City away, the latter of which he was substituted at half-time.
Ange's side need all the help they can get in terms of reinforcements to the current playing squad, so cashing in on a player who is not wanted would be really ideal. It is not in the club's hands whether or not Girona do trigger that clause, but it would certainly be beneficial if they did - as good of a player that he may be.
Not that 24 years of age is old, but he is not a prospect anymore. If he was 21 - the age where Spurs signed him - he probably would not have been allowed to have a buy option in his loan deal. At his age, and stage of his career, a permanent home where he gets plenty of game time feels best for everyone involved. Good luck to him if that is the case.
