Lorenzo Pellegrini reflects on Roma’s performance in first game of the season | OneFootball

Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini spoke to the media about the team’s performance in last night’s 0-0 result with Cagliari.

In his post-match presser, Pellegrini remarked, “It’s important to see what we lacked last season and try and move more like a team in order to improve and become as strong as possible.”

“In my opinion we did that tonight, this is an important starting point,” he added.

“As I said we are not happy with the result. In the first half we struggled more, we may have lacked something then in terms of focus, athleticism, even the pitch wasn’t great, it’s not an alibi, but it’s the truth. In the second half we tried to increase the pace but we couldn’t find the goal.”

“I believe it is important for Roma to have many players who are ready and know how to play quality football. This is the path we want to be on.”

“As we have seen in recent years, we struggled to achieve what we wanted in the league. From my point of view we always arrived at the end of the league season behind the others because we always got to the very end of European competitions, then in the end between trips and extra matches you can suffer from it.”

“I believe that the important thing is more than one player rather than another, by now you know I never think of myself as more important than a teammate, I think that the most important thing is what I see: every day we train together and we work as a team. This – as captain – makes me happy.”
