We reported yesterday that Lucas Bergstrom was close to a loan move, and today it’s been announced in the Peterborough Telegraph that he will join the Posh in League One this year.
The towering 6 foot 7 goalie has impressed in Chelsea’s youth ranks after signing as a 16 year old, and now gets to play proper league football.
It will be a massive step up for Bergstrom, but the recent successes of his peers like Nathan Baxter at the same level will give him big confidence he can succeed there.
It also explains why Chelsea are being so heavily linked with other teenage goalkeepers – including Eddie Beach of Southampton and Gabriel Slonina of Chicago Fire – to replace Bergstrom as development squad keeper and fourth choice reserve for the first team.
Good luck Lucas – becoming a starting goalie in the Football League is always a tricky step up, but he’s certainly got the talent to make it stick.
