Canadian Men's National Team striker Lucas Cavallini has sealed a return to Liga MX, joining Club Tijuana on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old had been without a club since leaving the Vancouver Whitecaps at the end of the 2022 MLS season.

Cavallini joins a Xolos side sitting 15th in the Clausura standings, drawing three of their four games and failing to pick up a win so far. Xolos finished in the same spot in the Apertura campaign, with the club desperately struggling for goals over the past year.

This is Cavallini's second stint in Liga MX after the striker - capped 35 times for the CanMNT - hit 28 goals and eight assists in 81 appearances across all competitions. His most recent spell with the Whitecaps yielded 18 goals in 68 games, helping the club win the 2022 Canadian Championship.

Cavallini's well-traveled career has also seen him take in spells in Uruguay with Nacional, Juventud, Fénix, and Peñarol.

The departure of Cavallini leaves VWFC a little light in the No.9 spot, with Brian White the only current natural option there. However, Vancouver have plenty of time to find a replacement before they open their 2023 MLS campaign at home to Real Salt Lake on February 25.
