A fascinating insight into the advice provided to La Liga giants Barcelona by former frontman Luis Suárez regarding the future of one of the club’s current stars has this weekend been forthcoming.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, and surrounds Ronald Araújo.

The name of defender Araújo has of course proven a headline one in the transfer chatter in Catalunya’s capital for some time now.

This comes amid ongoing speculation that the Uruguayan international could be on the move.

Amid both Barcelona’s efforts to secure fresh funds, and widespread interest in Araújo’s signature, it has been repeatedly rumoured that the stopper could bring a close to the Blaugrana chapter of his career.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media on Saturday is anything to go by, then it would appear that Araújo himself has at some point in the past at least been tempted to move on.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, the Camp Nou brass were ‘warned’ by a former member of the club’s frontline that Araújo was ready to take his talents to Bayern Munich last summer.

The player in question? Luis Suárez.

Suárez and Araújo, fellow countrymen and international teammates with Uruguay, are understood to boast a close friendship away from the pitch.

After asking the former to keep them informed of Araújo’s plans for his future, Suárez, in turn, touched base with Joan Laporta and co. in 2023, to explain:

‘Given the great offer from Bayern, the danger is real because, more than the money, he wants to compete for big titles.’

The 25-year-old, in the end, stayed put, but Barcelona were nevertheless no doubt appreciative of being provided with an inside look into the plans of such a key member of the club’s squad.
