Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has caused a stir online after appearing in a TikTok video.
The United man’s entire career has been blighted by injury but the last two seasons have been horrific even by his standards.
In the entire 2023-2024 season, the England defender only played 15 times for the side as he was held back by numerous injury problems.
This season looks to be even worse as he has only made three appearances in the entire campaign and played a total of 98 minutes all season.
With no return date in sight, fans have grown incredibly frustrated with the England international and this was not helped by his supposed rush to be fit for England in the Euros, seemingly at the expense of United, when he missed the first months of the season after picking up another injury.
The 29 year old has irked fans once more as he appeared in a TikTok video amidst United’s catastrophic run of form that has seen them drop to 14th and lose six games in December.
The National World report that “a Manchester United player is feeling hot under the collar after fans called him out – for starring in a TikTok video.”
Shaw “was seen in a TikTok video lip-syncing to the song Mugshot with Pete and Bas. The video was filmed at a New Year’s Eve party he went to with partner Anouska and Tommy Fury’s ex, Molly-Mae Hague.”
Shaw appears only briefly in the video, where he mimics the line, ‘Your mum’s on benefits”, but that has been enough to cause a reaction online.
Speaking on TalkSport, Man United fan and reporter Angelina Kelly said that fans were confused about the video but it wasn’t “the best look” considering his massive injury problems and the team’s lack of success on the pitch.
Of course United’s problems are nothing to do with Shaw appearing jovial on social media but it is the message it sends out.
Fans certainly don’t expect players to be sombre all the time off the pitch as the team struggles but there is also the argument that they don’t need to flaunt themselves publicly having a good time while the team is on one of its worst runs in its history.
