Patrick Dorgu is expected to end Luke Shaw’s career at Manchester United.
Ruben Amorim heads into the Europa League final on Wednesday, facing an injury crisis at the back.
With question marks over Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Ayden Heaven’s fitness, Amorim may have to rely on Luke Shaw to step up against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Englishman has also endured an injury-laden season, but he has featured regularly this month. His ability to play as a wide centre-back or wing-back could greatly help Amorim in Bilbao.
However, the 29-year-old left-back, who has made just four Premier League starts this campaign, is likely to leave United after the Europa League final, as the Red Devils have already signed his replacement.
According to GIVEMESPORT, there are “whispers” that Dorgu could end Shaw’s career.
Signed from Lecce in January, the Denmark international is considered an ideal fit for Amorim’s system as he is a natural left wing-back.
The report states that the 20-year-old is “everything Shaw isn’t – fit, strong, and with a reliable record of playing games.”
His promising start to life at Old Trafford has suggested that Dorgu is ready to become a first-choice option on the left flank under Amorim.
Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are also capable of playing either side of the pitch. Further, academy product Harry Amass has impressed in his cameo appearances.
As such, it makes little sense for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and company to keep Shaw as a squad player as they want “players who are able to play and offer value for money.”
Shaw, who joined United from Southampton in a deal worth £31 million in 2014, currently earns £200,000-a-week including bonuses at the club. The figure is considered too much considering his contributions in recent seasons.
