The Hatters are closing in on Tromos striker Lasse Nordas on deadline day.
Luton Town are closing in on the deadline-day signing of Tromos forward Lasse Nordas.
As per a report from Italina outlet La Nuova Sardegna, the Hatters have put forward a four-year deal for the 22-year-old and are way ahead of the chasing pack for his signature.
Luton under Matt Bloomfield are in desperate need of fresh bodies to help turn around their dismal Championship campaign so far, with the club in severe danger of suffering back-to-back relegations.
Without a win in their last eight games, forwards with Premier League experience in the form of Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo have failed to be a constant threat at the top end of the pitch, with a regular goalscorer at the second-tier level needed in order to retain their Championship status.
With the hours ticking down ahead of the 11pm deadline, it appears the Hatters are set to strengthen their forward line in a bid to turn around their fortunes, taking a gamble on an overseas forward to hit the ground running.
According to La Nuova Sardegna, Luton Town are in the driving seat to land Lasse Nordas on a permanent deal, tabling a four-year contract offer.
Italian side Cagliari were interested in a potential move for the Norwegian, but they have seemingly admitted defeat in the battle. Barring any late bids, Nordas will become a Luton player on deadline day.
While Nordas nears towards getting his first taste of Championship action, the 22-year-old has been a first-team mainstay in his native homeland, netting nine times and registering four assists from 28 Eliteserien appearances as Tromas secured their safety in the top division.
The frontman also netted twice and notched an assist in their four UEFA Conference League qualifiers, as the club were dumped out in the third round over two legs by Scottish outfit Kilmarnock.
Signing a player from overseas is always a risk, but this is certainly a gamble given where Luton Town find themselves in the Championship.
While in Norway, Lasse Nordas has shown he can be prolific in front of goal, but it’s a different challenge having to adapt to a new style of football and a different country.
If a deal gets over the line, Luton will have to hope Nordas can settle into life at Luton as quickly as possible and find the back of the net on a consistent basis between now and the end of the season.
If this can happen, Luton will certainly possess enough firepower to drag themselves out of the mess they currently find themselves in, and allow them to have the stability to plan for next season to potentially challenge for a place back in the Premier League.
