Luton Town could be set for a transfer battle with AC Milan
Luton Town are interested in signing winger Cyriaque Irie from Dijon FCO in the summer transfer window.
That's according to a report from Get French Football News, who note that AC Milan have reportedly already seen a bid for the 19-year-old rejected.
Irie only joined Dijon last summer, when he signed from Real du Faso in his home country of Burkina Faso, where he has previously been capped at youth level.
The teenager then enjoyed an encouraging debut campaign for his new club, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 27 appearances in all competitions.
His contributions helped Dijon to a fourth place finish in the French third-tier, five points adrift of the promotion places.
Now it seems as though that is already starting to attract attention in the winger, from elsewhere around Europe.
As per this latest update, one potential next destination for Irie this summer, could be the Championship.
That's due to the fact that it is thought Luton Town are keeping tabs on the winger's progress, as they consider a move to sign him.
However, the Hatters may not be alone with their interest in the teenager, with AC Milan seemingly also keen on his services.
According to a report from L'Equipe, the Italian giants have already seen a €3million bid for Irie rejected this summer.
Luton of course, will be looking to bounce back from relegation from the Premier League to the Championship at the end of last season, following just a single season in the top-flight.
So far this summer, the Hatters are yet to make a first-team signing, although manager Rob Edwards has signed a new long-term contract at Kenilworth Road.
For his part, it is claimed that Irie is keen to move on this summer, after just a single season with Dijon.
However, there are still two years remaining on his current contract, securing his future in France until the end of the 2025/26 season.
As a result, Dijon will have some scope to negotiate any offers that come in for the winger during the current transfer window.
This does certainly feel like an intriguing target for Luton to be credited with an interest in during the summer transfer window.
He is still at the very early stages of his career, and has only been playing in the third-tier of French football this season, so a move to a Championship promotion-chasing team would be a big step-up.
Indeed, with the likes of Chiedozie Ogbene, Tahith Chong and Andros Townsend all on the books, it could also be argued that they do not exactly need another winger right now.
However, the fact AC Milan have already made a fairly sizeable bid for him, does highlight the potential he possesses, and at his age, he could still be one for the future.
As a result, this could still be a sensible move to make due to the possibility that he could become an asset further down the line, who they may be able to turn a profit on at some point.
With that in mind, this does seem like a possible deal that is at least worth looking into for Luton Town.
