James Maddison says he wants to “make history” with Tottenham this season by winning a first piece of silverware since 2008.

Spurs have not won a trophy since lifting the League Cup in 2008 despite having come close on numerous occasions since – including the Champions League final loss in 2019.

They finished fifth in the Premier League last season in what was boss Ange Postecoglou’s first season with the club.

But Maddison is backing himself and his team-mates to do big things this coming season.

“We need to strive to have more than just a good season,” he said.

“We want to be achieving big things and making history and getting our hands on silverware.

“We only do that by keeping improving as a squad and as players looking to be better and that’s the beauty of starting a new season.

“We’ve started fresh, we’ve come back with the benefit of having a year under the manager and we can really kick on and strive to achieve more than we did last year.”
