Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen believes it's pointless to look at the Championship table at this early stage of the season, speaking to BBC Radio Leicester.

The Foxes were in a very strong position ahead of their clash against Leeds United earlier this month, sitting at the top of the division and winning all but one of their 2023/24 league matches.

This defeat came against Hull City and Enzo Marsca's side were unlucky to lose that game considering they had chances to secure at least a point, with Abdul Fatawu coming on and hitting the post during the second half.

Heading into their game against Leeds, they have the chance to increase the gap between themselves and those in the play-off mix, which would have put them in an even stronger position than they were in already.

But Georginio Rutter's goal proved to be the difference between the two sides in front of the TV cameras, allowing the Whites to reduce the deficit slightly.

The Foxes faced Middlesbrough after this match - and it was always going to be a difficult game for Maresca's men considering how well Boro have done under Michael Carrick since he took over.

This game was also at the Riverside - and the Teesside club took full advantage of this by securing a 1-0 victory - which is another mini setback for Leicester.

These two results aren't what Maresca's side would have wanted heading into this international break - and they will need to respond positively after the interval to fend off Ipswich Town, the Whites and other strong teams in the division.

What did Mads Hermansen say after Leicester City's back-to-back defeats?

You could look at the table in two ways.

The Foxes have had the gap between themselves and third place reduced because of Leeds' recent positive results, but the former are still in a reasonably strong position.

Hermansen believes this isn't the time to focus too much on where his team are at though, saying: "There are still so many games left to play, it makes no sense to look at the table right now.

"Of course we're happy we're top - we're not going to deny that. We wanted to have the break with a good feeling but we know what to work and in which direction we need to go.

"We have 30 more games and hopefully we'll be on top then."

Can Leicester City get themselves back on track quickly?

Hermansen has a point. There's little point in looking at the league table until the latter stages of the season.

This definitely applies to Leicester who can't get too carried away at the moment - and their recent losses would have brought them back down to earth.

Perhaps these defeats will end up being crucial for the Foxes, who now have the international break to dust themselves down and come back with a point to prove after.

Following the break, they face Watford at home and relegation candidates Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
