Sky Germany reports that Mainz are now leading the race ahead of Borussia Mönchengladbach for Montpellier forward Arnaud Nordin.
Borussia Mönchengladbach were interested in the 26-year-old, but no agreement could be reached with the winger over a move to Borussia Park due to the fact that there was no sale from their side.
The arrival of Nordin from Montpellier will give Mainz more versatility in their forward options due to the injury proneness of both Jonathan Burkardt and Nelson Weiper. When those two are injured, the 05ers are left with Armindo Sieb as their only starting option.
Nordin will be able to provide versatility in Mainz’s attack as not only can he play as a striker but he can also play as a winger, however, Mainz does not play with recognised wingers.
A move to the MEWA arena will also give Nordin the opportunity to potentially play European football as they currently sit sixth in the Bundesliga.
