The Ilkay Gundogan transfer saga is proceeding at breakneck speed with updates flowing out almost every hour. Earlier today, we covered a story by Fabrizio Romano revealing that there is a possibility for the 33-year-old to leave the Catalan club this summer.

Subsequently, we covered another story by Athletic journalist David Ornstein revealing that there was widespread interest in Gundogan from Premier League clubs, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and even Qatar and that it was up to the player to make a decision.

Now, as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man City, Gundogan’s former club has opened talks with the player’s camp to bring him back to the Etihad this summer with Pep Guardiola keen on the comeback.

Barcelona have made it clear that they want the 33-year-old to leave. Gundogan has been a great servant for the club in the single season he has spent at the club but the financial situation leaves them with no option.

The German veteran is one of those few players in the Barcelona team who can be sold for a profit considering he arrived on a free transfer last summer. This helps the club in recording the sale in their books.

What Gundogan brings to the table cannot be put into words. He is one of the best at what he does in the world and it would be a huge loss for the team should he leave this summer. That said, the situation being what it is, we have to accept the reality and move on. Let’s see if the German gets his reunion with Pep in the coming days.
