Manchester City are plotting a shock move for Brentford left-back Aaron Hickey, according to The Sun.
The Scotland international only joined the Bees last summer for around €15 million but could be on the move once again with the Cityzens keen.
Hickey has impressed in his debut campaign with Brentford, although he is yet to record a goal contribution in the Premier League.
City will have to shell out €30m to secure his services, with Brentford keen to make a profit on the Scottish defender.
Since the untimely departure of Joao Cancelo, who joined Bayern Munich in the January transfer window, Man City have been keen to reinforce the left-back position.
The versatile Portuguese defender joined Bayern on an initial loan deal, but the German champions have the option to make his stay at the Allianz Arena permanent for €70m.
However, Bayern are hesitant to pay that huge sum for a player who has struggled to nail down a starting spot since arriving in Germany.
Hickey is versatile enough to play on either side of the back four and is astute defensively, winning 62% of his ground duels this season.
He could be a shrewd acquisition to the Man City backline, especially with Kyle Walker and Sergio Gomez struggling to get game time.
Gomez joined the Cityzens from Anderlecht last summer but has found playing time at the Etihad Stadium hard to come by.
The 22-year-old has managed just 19 appearances across all competitions while managing one assist that came in the Premier League.
However, the Spanish defender gave a good account of himself in the 3-0 FA Cup semi-final victory over Sheffield United on Saturday evening.
Walker has also declined in recent weeks and has played a bit-part role in Man City’s campaign, so Hickey may be reinforcement the club needs in the backline.
