Manchester United supporters are planning a major protest against the Glazer family ahead of Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Arsenal at Old Trafford, as anger over the club’s ownership reaches boiling point.
The demonstration, led by The 1958 fan group, will see supporters march to the stadium from the Tollgate pub at 3:15 pm, wearing black to symbolise what they describe as the club “slowly dying” under its American owners.
Steve Crompton, spokesperson for The 1958, made the group’s frustration clear: “The club is slowly dying before our eyes, on and off the pitch, and the blame lies squarely at the ownership model. The club is facing financial Armageddon. Debt is the road to ruin.”
The group’s statement pulled no punches, invoking Sir Matt Busby as a symbol of the club’s lost values:
“Sir Matt Busby would be turning in his grave at the plight of one of the world’s greatest football institutions, which is being brought to its knees, and in many ways becoming a laughing stock.”
The protest is expected to be one of the largest yet against the Glazers, who remain deeply unpopular despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s minority investment. Fan anger has been fuelled further by ticket price increases, as well as the team’s poor performances.
A separate protest took place at United’s FA Cup defeat to Fulham, where fans, in collaboration with the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust, joined forces with Fulham fans to demonstrate against excessive ticket pricing.

With United languishing in 14th place and on course to miss out on European football, and the estimated £100m that comes with it, frustration continues to grow.
Meanwhile, Arsenal, sitting 21 points ahead of United, travel to Old Trafford having won their last four league meetings with the Red Devils.
Mikel Arteta’s side have won 10, drawn five, and lost five in their last 20 league encounters against United, and Sunday’s clash will test whether Arsenal’s dominance over their historic rivals continues, against a backdrop of discontent among the Old Trafford faithful.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will also be putting their season ticket prices up by 3.7%, despite calls not to do so.
