Man United legend Jaap Stam has made himself available to join Ruud van Nistelrooy as the Leicester City assistant manager.
Leicester City are having a season to forget. While it started off like they would achieve Premier League safety as a minimum, their form over the last period has been woeful and simply inexcusable.
Of course, the decision for the Foxes to sack Steve Cooper was not without its controversy. Unfortunately, there will be a section of the King Power Stadium who watch on and say "we told you so."
These are still early days for Ruud van Nistelrooy. However, the Man United legend has hardly given Leicester fans any reason to believe in him or his philosophy.
Nevertheless, he has been offered help by a legend of the game who he knows very well.
According to a report from Manchester Evening News, Jaap Stam has made himself available to fulfil the role of Leicester City assistant manager. The role is currently occupied by Brian Barry-Murphy but Stam is open to helping out RvN, if he needs
When asked about joining Ruud van Nistelrooy as his assistant, Stam said: “Yes (I would be willing. Didn’t you expect that? Maybe when I go into training for two weeks I can still play a ball.”
Well, if Stam is offering both his assistant manager services AND his player services to Leicester, then we would definitely take it. Yep, even at 52. As I like to say, you're only as old as you feel. The Man United legend could teach a thing or two this current team, after all.
Since retiring from his playing days, Jaap Stam has made some pretty good movements in his managerial career. Currently, he is the manager of DOS Kampen but his managerial resume involves Reading, Feyenoord and FC Cincinnati, among others.
Of course, Stam and van Nistelrooy know each other very well. They are countrymen and proudly represented the Netherlands during the same period of time.
