Manchester United’s chances of signing left back Alphonso Davies have been boosted once more as it appears that he is at an impasse with Bayern Munich over a new deal.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked to a new left back with Nuno Mendes, Milos Kerkez and former player Alvaro Fernandez Carreras all options that the club holds an interest in.
A few weeks ago, there was also a lot of talk about Alphonso Davies as he is set to become a free agent this summer.
It was reported that United had scheduled a meeting with his agent this month but then news broke that the club’s chances would be scuppered by the Bayern Munich defender’s wage demands.
There was a sensational twist in the story though as reports emerged that Davies had a change of heart and was close to agreeing a new deal with the Bavarian club, ruining any chances of United sealing a deal for the 24 year old.
Spanish newspaper AS state that these reports may have been premature however and that the chasing pack such as Man United and Real Madrid still stand a chance of landing the star.
“Alphonso Davies’ future is in a swerve. The Canadian continues to delay with Bayern in his attempt to renew his contract.”
“His continuation at the club does not seem certain, the latest offer launched from Munich does not satisfy the full-back’s demands, despite the fact that reports from Germany assured that it was practically done.”
The latest offer from Bayern would make him the second highest player in the squad but the “soap opera” over his future is set to continue as he is not content with how negotiations are unfolding.
Davies has still not responded to the latest offer and it is looking increasingly likely that he will not do so in a positive way for the Bundesliga leaders.
The left back is free to discuss his future with European clubs this month and in a huge update, “it is expected that at the end of the week he will be able to give a definitive answer to all interested clubs: either he renews or he leaves. The decision is about to be made.”
The Canadian would certainly add significant speed and attacking prowess down the left hand side and United, like numerous clubs, will be eagerly anticipating his imminent decision on his future.
