Manchester United are searching the market for a new left-back, but Paris Saint-Germain have raised a wall around Nuno Mendes.

The Red Devils are in dire need of reinforcement in this particular position. After all, Luke Shaw continues to be plagued by never-ending injury problems, while Tyrell Malacia has yet to convince Ruben Amorim who has given him the Marcus Rashford treatment ahead of yesterday’s defeat against Wolves – In other words, omitting him from the matchday squad despite not being injured.

So according to Fichajes.net, the Premier League giants have identified Mendes as one of their most desired solutions for the role.

The 22-year-old is a Sporting CP youth product who signed for PSG in the summer of 2022 for €38 million, and immediately established himself as a pillar on the left for the Parisian giants. But with his contract expiring in June 2026, the Portuguese’s long-term future at the Parc des Princes is starting to get clouded by doubts, so several suitors, including Man Utd will be hoping to pounce on the opportunity.

Man United won’t find it easy to prise Nuno Mendes away from PSG

As the source explains, Amorim and his staff feel Mendes would be the ideal solution to solidify the left flank defensively as well as offering support to the attack with his menacing forays.

Nevertheless, the report reveals that PSG aren’t willing to give up on their prized asset easily. While the Ligue 1 champions are willing to negotiate, they have set their price at €70 million, thus complicating matters for United who also have other departments to bolster while Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are unlikely to sanction another hefty spending spree given how the previous ones unfolded.

So while the Red Devils are desperate for a new left-back, signing Mendes might be a tall order at this stage.
