Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he was a starting centre back but under Erik ten Hag and now Ruben Amorim, the Swede has been relegated to a squad option.

He has only played 14 games this season due to injury problems and is falling down the pecking order.

The Swedish international was on the bench for his side in their shock loss to Luxembourg but played the entire 90 minutes as they thrashed Northern Ireland 5-1 in Stockholm on Tuesday night.

Speaking after the match, the central defender explained that he was happy to get some much needed time on the grass with his country.

As reported by The Manchester Evening News he stated, “it’s been a while. It felt good. It’s nice to play 90 minutes. I need minutes.”

He also highlighted that he thoroughly enjoyed the type of football that his nation were playing at the moment.

The 30 year old explained, “we play with very high intensity in the national team, so it’s fun to hold for 90 minutes. It’s tough and a demanding way to play football.”

“But we have to do that, too. It still felt like we solved it well, but it’s a little different sometimes to be so high up.”

Lindelof is widely believed to be playing in his last season at Old Trafford as it has been reported that the club is prepared to let him go in June when his current contract expires.

It has also been reported that the Swedish defender would welcome a return to former side S.L. Benfica when he leaves Old Trafford.
