Man Utd equal 33-year-old record in Europa League victory over Bodo/Glimt | OneFootball

Manchester United equalled a long-standing European record in the 3-2 home win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The home side opened the scoring within the first minute of the game through Alejandro Garnacho, no thanks to a mistake from the Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin.

It was the first time the Red Devils scored in the opening minute of a major European game in 33 years

Per OptaJoe, the last time the club did that was in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup tie with Montpellier in 1991 when Brian McClair opened the scoring.

Bodo/Glimt were able to turn the game on its head through goals from Hakon Evjen and Philip Zinckernagel before United regained their composure.

A brace from Rasmus Hojlund ensured the Premier League giants grabbed their second victory in the competition and the first under new manager Ruben Amorim.

The victory takes United to nine points, one point adrift from the top eight, which will secure a direct place in the round of 16.

United have to build on the momentum against Everton

The performance against Bodo/Glimt was unconvincing, but United needed to secure a victory to boost the momentum under Amorim.

United could not get maximum points against Ipswich Town, and failure to do so against another inferior side could have raised more concerns.

The Red Devils could not have hoped for a better way to build on the momentum as they welcome Everton to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

United are in 12th place in the Premier League standings but can get into the top half with a victory against Everton, who have one win in the last five games.
