Man Utd 'make offer' for Manuel Ugarte alternative as PSG talks drag on | OneFootball

Manchester United are reported to have made a bid for Burnley midfielder Sander Berge as they look to rebuild Erik ten Hag's squad.

Paris Saint-Germain's Manuel Ugarte is United's top target and the Uruguay international is known to be keen on making the switch to Old Trafford, but his asking price of €60m (£51.1m) has so far proven problematic.

While Ugarte is still the preferred option, United appear to be preparing to miss out on the 23-year-old as the Daily Mail claim a bid has been submitted for Berge.

Burnley, who were relegated to the Championship last season, value Berge at £30m and United's offer is understood to have fallen short of their asking price.

Berge, who was first on United's radar way back in 2019, is yet to play for Burnley this season, although manager Scott Parker has insisted the 26-year-old is battling a minor quad injury.

Ugarte was also left out of the PSG squad for their Ligue 1 opener. The French side are happy to do business but are currently refusing to budge from their valuation, which is how much they paid to sign Ugarte from Sporting CP last summer.

With an alternative signing needed, another report recently named Atalanta's Ederson as a potential target for the Red Devils.

It is thought United need to raise money before further signings after an expensive summer which has brought Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to Old Trafford.

Talks are back on with Fulham over the potential sale of Scott McTominay, who is also wanted by Napoli. The Cottagers have seen two bids turned down, the most recent of which was worth £20m, but remain keen on the Scotland international and could make a fresh offer.
