Manchester United are competing with Real Madrid to sign one of Spain’s emerging talents, according to AS.
The Red Devils bolstered their midfield department with the signing of Manuel Ugarte last month. The former Paris Saint-Germain star is expected to make his debut after the international break.
He should provide the much-needed defensive resolve from the number six role. United are also looking at emerging players for the future. The club recently signed teenage midfielder Sekou Kone.
It is now reported that United are ‘competing’ with Real Madrid for the signature of Juanlu Sanchez, who has already made close to 50 appearances for Sevilla across all competitions.
The 21-year-old started his career as a right-back, but he has played in midfield for Sevilla this term. He has a release clause worth £17 million in his contract which expires in June 2026.
The young Spaniard was recently part of his country’s Under-23 side at the Olympics. He was a regular substitute, but scored a crucial winning goal against Morocco in the semi-final.
La Roja went on to win the final against France with a resounding 5-3 scoreline to win gold. Juanlu was impressive with his distribution and attacking mindset during his time on the field.
Juanlu largely played as a right-back in Paris, but Sevilla manager Garcia Pimienta has preferred to utilise his qualities from a central attacking midfield role in the current La Liga season.
In our view, the midfielder is far from a finished article, but he has untapped potential. With a low clause of £17m, United could be tempted to prise him away from the Andalusian outfit.
Juanlu is in a strong position to decide his future. Sevilla could be compelled to sell him next summer if he decides against penning a new contract with an increased buy-out clause.
