Anderlecht manager Hein Banhaezebrouk has confirmed the club tried to sign Lazar Marković from Liverpool in the summer.
However, he blamed the winger for the collapse of the deal.
Marković has not appeared for Liverpool since the 2014/15 season, spending time on loan with Fenerbahçe, Sporting and Hull City before joining Anderlecht on a temporary basis late last season.
That switch could have become permanent but collapsed as the Serbian international would not lower his wage demands, Banhaezebrouk claimed.
Marković has now been named in Liverpool’s Premier League squad for the season but is highly unlikely to feature under Jürgen Klopp.
