Lommel were the early pace setters in the Challenger Pro League this season, but over the last two months their bid to gain promotion to the Pro League has been faltering. After a 1-0 home defeat to Jong Genk on Friday evening, the side have now gone six games without a win. Their last three points came at home to bottom of the table SL16 on the 6th of October.
During that time they have played against a number of their potential rivals for promotion. They lost 2-1 to a resurgent Beerschot, before drawing 1-1 with Zulte Waregem and a 2-2 draw with a Beveren side who have disappointed to start the season. With another clash with top of the league Beerschot coming in four games time, Lommel will hope to turn things around. Their next clash is against RFC Seraing, another side in relegation trouble.
Lommel are one of a number of teams across the globe who are linked to Manchester City as part of the City Group.
This season the top two in the Challenger Pro League will be automatically promoted. Lommel are only two points off of second place Zulte Waregem, but their recent form is seeing them slip further down the league. They remain in the top six, with sides placed third to sixth competing in play-offs. The winner of the play-offs will face the third bottom side in the Pro League for a chance to gain promotion.
