Premier League champions Manchester City have began talks over a player they believe is the ideal replacement for Ederson in the role of number one choice goalkeeper.
The future of the Brazilian international shot-stopper remains in doubt heading towards another summer transfer window, after City’s long-standing mainstay between the posts came close to a move to Saudi Arabia in the last market.
Ederson was the subject of widespread attention from the Middle-East, and despite opening himself up to the idea of a drastic change of scenery for the tail-end of his professional career, no club was able to meet Manchester City’s valuation on him.
It is believed that Etihad Stadium officials were standing firm on a price tag in the region of £50 million, however no club in the Saudi Pro League is believed to have exceeded the £30 million mark, thus keeping Ederson in Sky Blue.
Now though, it appears as though Manchester City are preparing themselves for a reignited interest in the player, by identifying a possible long-term solution to an opening that may become available in the squad in the summer months.
According to the information of FootballTransfers’ Steve Kay, Manchester City will go into the summer transfer market to replace mainstay number one choice goalkeeper Ederson, with FC Porto’s Diogo Costa the top target.
It is claimed that with the 25-year-old being the shot-stopper that City want as their first-choice goalkeeper from next season, talks are underway with a potential transfer to the Etihad Stadium next summer ‘quickly gaining momentum’.
For now it remains to be seen whether Ederson has entirely changed his mind on the idea of a Manchester City exit, with the Brazilian having settled in the south of the Greater Manchester region with his young family.
However, the prospect of Middle-Eastern millions will likely still entice a player who has previously discussed openly the positives of football financially securing his immediate family and those back in Brazil.
There is also likely to be reports brought to the fore around Stefan Ortega Moreno’s future, with the Germany international goalkeepers being outspoken since joining Manchester City from Arminia Bielefeld about his desire to become the club’s number one.
The 32-year-old has attracted transfer interest from a number of clubs in Germany since starring for Pep Guardiola’s side in largely a back-up role, and that interest could yet be reignited from the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.
